How to Solve the Internet Explorer Script Error

In Internet Explorer (IE) script error occurs when the IE browser encounters difficulties running a client-side script from a website. There are several messages which may appear such as, “a runtime error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?” and the common message, “problems with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly.” The errors may be a result of something done by the web developer who implemented the script on the web page. Other causes may be conflict with antivirus software, firewalls and crammed temporary internet folders. The methods outlined below can be used to trouble shoot and resolve IE script errors.

Instructions to Resolving Internet Explorer Script Errors

Disable script debugging and Error Notifications

1. Go to the Tools and scroll down to Internet Options and select. 2. Click the Advanced tab and go to the Disable script debugging check box. Ensure the box is ticked then click ok.

3. To turn off the notifications go through the same steps but uncheck the Display anotification about every script error box.

Test a Web page from another user account, another browser, or another computer

1. By using another browser you are able to test to see if the problem is unique to your browser/computer/account. 2. If the problem persists it would indicate that it stems from the way the web page is written. 3. Ignore the error and disable the script debugging (If the page is very important you may want to send a report to the sites).

4. However if the problem does not occur with the new browser, it can be concluded that it’s unique to your personal settings or files.

Unblock Active Scripting, ActiveX and JavaScript

Active scripting, ActiveX, and Java shape the way information is displayed on a Web page and may disrupt the page if they are blocked. These scripts are turned off at the high security level; unblocking may be done by resetting Internet Explorer.

1. Start Internet Explorer. 2. Go to Tools and select Internet Options/Properties 3. From Internet Options select Security 4. Select Default Level and click OK

5. You can also check for firewall or anti-malware settings that may be blocking scripts

Remove all the temporary Internet-related files

Temporary internet files are copies of web pages that have been browsed. Crammed folders will result in script errors and can be cleared by the following steps:

1. Start Internet Explorer 2. Go to Tools menu and select Internet Options 3. Click the General tab 4. Go to Browsing and select Delete 5. Under Temporary Internet Files click Delete 6. Go to Cookies and History and select Delete for both

7. Click OK when finished

Repair/Update the Scripting Engine or Install the latest service pack and software updates for Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7

1. Download the latest service pack or software upgrades for Internet Explorer 6 or 7 and install them.
